"To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited. Soul and spirit are stretched – along with body – making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings."
-Anne Christian Buchanan
I have always for as long as I can remember been fascinated by birth and the strength of women in labour and I want to immortalise it by capturing it on camera.
I can so clearly remember the moment my drive for being birth conscious exploded. My pregnant cat giving birth to 5 sweet babies. Yes, my cat; and it was the most beautiful thing my young mind had ever seen. Since then, I have not stopped obsessing over pregnancy, birth, postpartum and all its beautiful, messy imperfections.
After having my own little one, the intensity and curiosity has grown even stronger - I asked my husband to take pictures with my camera so I could see all the bits I knew I'd miss (from pain relief, labour brain and I physically do not bend that far) and let me tell you, I have never loved any pictures more. It was also specifically in my birth plan to not throw away the placenta and cord until I'd had a good look at the most incredible, life sustaining organ. Your body just creates this - incredible!!
Humans show so much strength, passion and power, especially in moments of raw vulnerability and I think it is one of the most beautiful things in life. Although birth photography isn't very popular in most parts of the UK, I'm striving to change the way people view birth.
I want this captured for you. I know it's possibly an alien concept for someone to be photographing you in such a vulnerable space but I know, deep in my heart that one day it will be a very common, 'normal' practice. These moments cannot be recreated; it's raw, passionate, beautiful and the most incredible moment of your life and the start of your baby's.
Why choose to have the birth photographed?
I know so many people who wished they’d had more photos taken during or immediately after the birth and to have photos of their birth partner too, instead of them being behind the camera.
I know from my own experience that I have a very weak memory of my birth and looking back on the images gives me the opportunity to reflect and remember the little things I'd forgotten.
These are moments that cannot be recreated and hiring a birth photographer means you'll have these memories and moments to look back on - whether you keep them to yourself or share with your loved ones, you'll have those incredible moments forever.
I highly encourage you, if you're even slightly interested or curious, or this is a completely new concept to you, to get in touch and ask any questions you may have.
I care about you and your birth experience.

I promise to bring honesty, respect and trust with me to all my births. I am fully aware that everyone has a different level of comfort and will only photograph what you are happy with but you are more than welcome to change your mind at ANY time.
Everything about birth is beautiful to me; the whole process is incredible and important and I strive to bring my passion to every birth story I do.
The things I will not do, is be in the way or be intrusive and I will make sure this incredible journey is captured for you.
If you love the idea of the birth being captured but are on edge about having a birth photographer there, let's chat and I can answer any questions or concerns you may have - meeting in person is the best way to ease your worries and get to know me!
Birth stories start from £1150 in the Cardiff area - gift registry and payment plans are available.
It's really important for everyone involved to talk, meet or even video chat (as many times as you need) before the big day. The last thing you need is for a stranger to be in the birth space when your concentration and comfort is paramount.
